November Goal Setting conference letter 2022-2023

October 28, 2022

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Harwood is holding our November check in and goal setting conferences. The purpose of this meeting is to check in on the school year so far by sharing bright spots and possible challenges. Students will also be sharing a goal for the year with a focus related to their grade in school.

  • Seniors - transition plans for success following graduation

  • Juniors - developing a more detailed awareness of options beyond high school

  • Sophomores - academic skill(s) that will help to manage more demanding classes and schedules

  • 9th grade - building executive functioning skills (for example; time management, organization, working memory, etc.)

  • Middle School - one personal and one academic goal

Our process supports students in considering what is important for them to accomplish. Students will take an active role in the planning process and learn how to monitor their own progress; adjusting when they meet challenges and celebrating accomplishments along the way. Your student’s TA teacher will provide regular opportunities to check in on their successes and challenges and celebrate and support as needed. Students will share their final outcomes with their parents in the Spring. As the main support for your child, we want to be sure you know what the goal is and to determine how you can best support them to meet their objectives. Students who learn how to set and achieve goals learn organization, self management and confidence in their ability to begin to take charge of their lives. All skills that are essential for success in life beyond high school.

As with our Welcome meetings earlier in the year, conferences will be in person or through a video meeting (Google or Zoom) and booked through Canyon Creek (HS conferences only). MS conferences will be booked through Google and teachers will reach out to you soon. If you prefer a video conference for your HS or MS child, please contact your child’s TA teacher so they can send you a link.

MS and HS conferences will be held Wednesday, November 9th or Tuesday, November 15th, from 3:30-7:00.
