The National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) is dedicated to the values of scholarship, service,

leadership, and character. These four pillars have guided the national organization

since its inception in 1921. Harwood Union's chapter was founded in 1996.

More than a million students are involved in NHS in all 50 states, US Territories,

Canada, and around the world. Chapter membership not only recognizes students

for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active

involvement in school activities and community service.

To be considered for membership in the Harwood chapter, rising juniors and seniors must first meet an academic threshold based on their Cumulative Course Score Average. For graduating classes 2020 and 2021, this number is 3.28. For the class of 2022 and thereafter, the number is 3.40.

Students who have achieved that score will be sent an invitation to apply in the fall of each school year, during which they must demonstrate their achievement in leadership, character and service. These applications are evaluated by the Faculty Council, comprised by five faculty members representing academic departments and school counseling.
