Our Mission
Harwood Union High School is a mid-sized secondary school located in South Duxbury, Vermont. As a member of the Harwood Unified Union School District, the school serves the towns of Duxbury, Fayston, Moretown, Waitsfield, Warren, and Waterbury. The institution is also referred to as “Harwood USHD #19.”
History and Overview
Ground broke in 1964 for the construction of Harwood High School. The school was built on a 20-acre (81,000 m²) plot of land and cost approximately $1.6 million to build. Construction was completed in early 1966 and the doors opened for the 1966-1967 school year. Harwood is named after Dr. Charles Harwood, a notable figure in the communities Harwood serves. Harwood is a union high school, meaning it serves multiple towns. These towns are Waitsfield, Warren, Fayston, Moretown, Duxbury and Waterbury for the High School and Waitsfield, Warren, Fayston and Moretown for the middle school. In 1997, Harwood underwent a $7.2 million renovation in order to modernize its facilities as well as add a dedicated Middle School wing of the school. These renovations included a new exterior design featuring a curved front roof meant to look like a turning page.
