Blowing leaves. All I want to do is sit and catch blowing leaves. I never realized how much I liked that part of Fall.
The other day only the engine of a train went by my house. I was writing my class response when I heard the whistle of the train. When the train goes by, my family likes to count how many engines there are. My dad says you can tell how the econommy is doing by counting the engines. 6-7 means it's doing good; 2-3 isn't so good. One engine pulling nothing must be very, very bad. When I was five years old we move to Waterbury. I had never heard or seen a train before, and was thrilled that there were tracks across the river from our new house. Every time the train would whitstle by, I would start yelling, "Train! Train!" to everyone in the house.
Kate
Such a quick name
it's over before you really hear it
The beginning is loud and abrupt,
like the crack of lightning and thunder.
The ending is final like the snapping of a twig.
To say my name is topping suddenly at a red light.
The "K" part rides smoothly out of your mouth
and there you stop dead with the "t".
It leave your tongue stunned.
My name feels like shredded ice;
sharp, cold.
You cannot savor the flavor of my name
because it is too strong;
it tastes bitter like lemons
so you end up spitting it out quick
I will never be a Katherine.
