Harwood Arts Program
The Visual Art department faculty take great pride in the excellence of their students' work. Our department is proud to offer a diverse range of classes that will excite and challenge a broad spectrum of students and their individual learning styles. Our classrooms are welcoming and invigorating places of learning where diverse and original creative thinking is accepted and encouraged. As college admissions become increasingly competitive, more and more students at Harwood are augmenting their postsecondary applications with creative projects from visual art classes, regardless of their post secondary aspirations. Portfolio development is becoming a critical component of for college admission and career purposes, as it underscores the creative and unique potential in a candidate for employment or school admission.

The number of course offerings and the high quality of our programs would simply not be possible without fundraising efforts. To that end, we have created a volunteer organization dedicated to advocating for the performing arts at Harwood as well as raising funds to support our students’ music education and experience. If you are or were enrolled in the music program or you have a friend/family member involved, you ARE a Friend of Harwood Music! As members of this organization, we hope that we all might feel a sense of obligation to do our part to support this music experience. The school district continues to give the music program great support in the face of increasing school budget concerns, and their efforts to help keep the program intact and the arts alive are very much appreciated. But it is simply not enough and we need your help.
Please take the opportunity to get involved with your community's music education and volunteer your time to participate in Friends of Harwood Music. If you are interested in helping please contact Chris Rivers via email at
riversc@harwood.org or reply to the link on the Friends of Harwood Music website:
friendsofharwoodmusic.org.
Our financial goals include $4,000 annually to fund the Lesson Scholarships Program, Small Ensemble Program and to defray travel costs associated with Festivals and Public Performance.
****Friends of Harwood Music can and should provide advocacy; representing parent support for music programs at Harwood. We look forward to your help!
